I think John Ilsley is one of the best, most understated bassists. He’s like Benmont Tench (Keyboardist with Tom Petty), bloody genius but seldom recognized. f–k I miss those days, so glad I was around back when this was new.

God, Dire Straits are fucking great. I’ve never heard a better band in the world. Sincerely. I remember I started listening them when I heard Money for nothing on the TV, and then… god, it was fantastic. Thanks, DS, for give me all this good music.
    Mark for king!

I think this is one of the best MK guitar songs. Have you ever just listened to the hybrid “hacky-hack” rhythm fused with small leads on the album? Done very well live, too!. I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time – Assuming I could even play the rhythm like he does on this song, I certainly couldn’t sing as well! Also LOVE the volume pedal fade out on the album version.

@Dog Swede – well, not sure about the friendliness comment, because when Mark signed my album cover a few years back, he drew a Hitler moustache on David’s face!!

    Thanks for sharing this clip.

Hadn’t realised Alan Clark had played with the band this early – I knew he was with the band by ‘82 for the making of Love Over Gold but this is a revelation!

Haven’t heard this song in ages. Forgot how good it was. And I loved the show “Fridays”.
